J-Find Visa Japan 2026: Eligibility, Universities & How to Apply
Come to Japan before you have a job offer.
J-Find gives eligible recent graduates from top global universities time in Japan to find a job or prepare a business—then move to the status that fits what comes next.
You may qualify if you are 18 or older, earned a bachelor-level or higher qualification from an eligible university within the last five years, and can show approximately ¥200,000 in personal savings. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee visa issuance or entry.
Do these four statements describe you?
All four should be true. Start with the university list—the gate most applicants need to verify first.
Not sure about the university requirement? Search all 91 universities on the January 2026 official list.

J-Find is handled as Designated Activities for future-creation individuals. Its main purposes are job hunting and preparation for starting a business.
- Live in Japan while conducting genuine job-hunting activity
- Attend interviews and meet prospective employers
- Prepare a business, including genuine planning and setup activity
- Bring an eligible dependent spouse or child through the related route
“Remunerative activity” should not be read as permission to take any job. Check the scope of your individual designation before accepting paid work.
J-Find may not be the most direct route. Compare it with the work status that covers the offered duties.
How long can you stay?
The maximum is not normally granted all at once. Plan around the period shown on your residence documentation.
| Question | Official guidance | What you should do |
|---|---|---|
| Initial period | One year, six months, or an individually designated period of up to one year. | Check the expiry date actually granted to you. |
| Maximum period | Up to two years in total if eligible extensions are approved before expiry. | Keep evidence of continued qualifying activity and apply on time. |
| Spouse or child | An eligible dependent spouse or child can use the related Designated Activities route. | Prepare relationship evidence and the principal holder’s residence documents. |
From eligibility check to arrival
The exact filing route and extra documents can vary by embassy, consulate and whether you use a Certificate of Eligibility.
Confirm the university and award date
Use the current official list and confirm that the qualification is bachelor-level or higher.
Prepare the core evidence
Expect proof of qualification and savings, an activity description, CV and health-insurance pledge.
Confirm the filing route
Ask the responsible Japanese mission whether you are using a COE route or direct document submission.
Apply and follow your declared plan
A COE can make processing smoother, but it does not guarantee visa issuance or entry.
Ready to prepare the file? See the document list, evidence notes and practical sequence.
