Daily life · Practical guide
Read the missed-delivery notice, find the right carrier and request a time when you can receive the item. Start with the official online or English option—or get support if a Japanese call is holding you up.
Direct answer
Use the carrier on your notice—not a general delivery service.
A missed-delivery notice is often called 不在票 (fuzaihyo) or ご不在連絡票. Check the carrier, addressee, tracking or notice number and deadline. Use that carrier’s official redelivery route and save the accepted date and time.
Check what the notice actually says. The item may be awaiting redelivery, already in a delivery locker, or held because the name or address could not be confirmed. Storage limits vary by carrier and item; act promptly rather than waiting until the last day.
01 · Prepare
Have these details ready
- Carrier and notice. Find the company name and the reason for the notice. If the addressee is unfamiliar, contact the carrier rather than requesting someone else’s item.
- Tracking or notice number. Copy it carefully. Sagawa may also require the branch-office number shown on the notice.
- Recipient details. Prepare your name, delivery address including building and room, and contact number.
- Available times. Choose a date and time window offered by the carrier when someone can receive the item.
- Deadline and item type. Check for a storage deadline, chilled/frozen service, payment on delivery or special receipt instructions.
02 · Choose your next step
How would you like to handle it?
03 · Do it yourself
Start with the official carrier route.
| Carrier | Official route | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Japan Post 日本郵便 |
Redelivery form (English) | Prepare the tracking or notification number. This web form is for the address on the notice; ask the carrier about another location or counter collection |
| Yamato Transport ヤマト運輸 |
Notice guide and English options | Use the waybill number. The guide includes English automated-phone instructions; the driver may not speak English |
| Sagawa Express 佐川急便 |
Redelivery guide (Japanese; language selector available) | Online, Smart Club or the phone number on the notice. Have the tracking and branch-office numbers ready |
| Another carrier | The official website or contact shown on your notice | Use its own process and deadline; these examples do not cover every delivery service |
Use the current choices shown by the carrier. Do not assume that another address, locker, unattended delivery or office collection is available for every item.
For collection at an office, arrange it first.
Ask which office holds the item, when it is ready and what identification or notice you must bring. Sagawa explicitly asks customers to contact it before office collection and bring the notice and official identification. Do not travel to an office based only on its proximity.
Request redelivery
“I received a missed-delivery notice and would like redelivery. The tracking number is [number]. The recipient is [name], at [address, building and room].”
Ask for an available date and time
“I would like to receive it on [date] between [time] and [time]. Is that window available? If not, please tell me the available dates and times.”
Check the storage deadline
“What is the storage deadline? If I cannot receive it by then, what should I do?”
Ask about collection instead
“Can I collect it at the sales office or post-office counter? Please confirm the location, opening hours and what I need to bring.”
Before finishing, confirm these points.
- The request was accepted for the correct item
- The delivery date, time window and address, or confirmed collection office
- The storage deadline and any further action
- Required identification, payment or receipt conditions
- How to change the arrangement if your plans change
LifeAdmin · Japanese call support
Still blocked by a Japanese delivery call?
LifeAdmin can contact one carrier office or official contact, communicate one clear redelivery-related request and confirm the arrangement or next step. You receive a written English summary of the result and any action still needed.
- ¥2,980 · one organization, one clear purpose
- Up to two call attempts
- Normally reviewed within one business day; calls during Japanese business hours
What we’ll need from you
- The carrier and official contact number
- The tracking or notice number and branch-office number, if shown
- Your recipient name, address and contact number
- The notice date, storage deadline and preferred delivery windows
- One clear request and times when you can join for consent or verification
Provide relevant details through the task form. Keep ID copies, payment-card details, passwords and locker access codes for your own use or the carrier’s official process.
This is communication support. LifeAdmin does not collect, receive, store or transport parcels, pay delivery charges or complete your identity verification. The carrier may require direct action from you. We do not negotiate compensation or disputes, and do not guarantee delivery or prevent return to the sender. A second organization is outside this task’s scope.
04 · Check the deadline
Storage limits depend on what is being delivered.
Use the date on your notice and confirm with the carrier if unclear. The following are examples from official guides, not a single rule for all parcels.
| Item | Official guidance | Your next step |
|---|---|---|
| Japan Post domestic postal items / Yu-Pack | Domestic postal items and Yu-Pack: seven days; undelivered items are returned to the sender | Check the actual deadline and request receipt promptly |
| International parcels handled by Japan Post | Separate rules: generally 15 days; taxed items and some others have a one-month period | Ask about your specific item; do not apply the domestic seven-day rule automatically |
| Yamato parcels | The notice guide describes up to one week for ordinary parcels, excluding perishables and food; Cool TA-Q-BIN is held up to three days from the notice date | Check the service type and act early, especially for chilled/frozen items |
| Sagawa or another carrier | Confirm the period for the actual service and item | Read the notice and contact the office about its deadline |
If you lost the notice
Look for the tracking number in the sender’s dispatch message or order record. Sagawa says to ask the sender when the tracking number is unknown. Prepare your name and address, then ask the relevant carrier which step is available.
If the item has already gone back
Confirm its status with the carrier and contact the sender about resending or another arrangement. A new redelivery request does not automatically reverse a return; any new shipping or payment conditions need confirmation.
If you moved or need another address
Explain the actual situation before submitting. Japan Post’s English web form is limited to the address on the notice, and other carriers have service-specific limits. Do not assume postal forwarding covers a courier parcel.
If the name or address is wrong
Ask the carrier what needs correction and whether the sender must act. For an unfamiliar recipient, report the issue without trying to receive the item yourself.
05 · Keep the next step clear
Ready to receive the item?
Tick an item once it is arranged. The ticks apply to this visit.

Questions
Redelivery: common questions
Can I request redelivery in English?
Japan Post has an English web form and Yamato lists English options. Start with the official route in the carrier table; English availability is not identical for every carrier.
Will the carrier automatically try again?
Follow the notice and request instructions. Do not rely on another attempt before the storage deadline.
Does every parcel have a seven-day deadline?
No. International postal items and chilled/frozen deliveries can have different periods. Check your notice and service type.
Can I pick it up instead?
Ask the carrier first about availability, the correct office and required documents. Collection is not an option for every item or location.
Does LifeAdmin receive the parcel for me?
No. LifeAdmin communicates with one organization and confirms the result. You arrange receipt and complete required verification or payment.
