  • Employment contract and recent pay slips (if employed)

What If You're Close But Not Quite There Yet?

A documented, imminent raise or promotion can count If you can show that a salary increase or promotion — already agreed, not hoped-for — means your income will reach ¥10 million at or shortly after the point of application, this can be accepted as meeting the requirement. The key word is documented: a signed new contract, an official promotion letter, or similar evidence, not a verbal expectation or a projection you've made yourself.

Beyond the Number

What Else Gets Checked Alongside Income

Meeting ¥10 million on paper isn't the end of the review. In practice, ISA also looks at the credibility and legitimacy of that income as part of the same assessment:

  • Tax compliance in your home/working country — are you actually filing and paying tax on this income?
  • Source of funds — is the income clearly tied to a legitimate business activity?
  • Consistency — does the income picture across your documents (contracts, invoices, tax filings) tell the same story, or are there contradictions?
